There are about 10 federal holidays celebrated in the United
States every year. Holidays are usually observed on days that are significant
to its history. Typically, the celebrations are derived from the originating
traditions that come with each holiday. Of course, everyone loves a holiday!
Not only do we get time off, we also get to have fun, eat and celebrate with
friends and family.
One of the most anticipated holidays of the year is
Halloween. Celebrated on the 31st of October, Halloween is all about
tricks, treats and a whole lot of spooky fun. For children, this day is exciting
because they get to wear costumes and go trick-or-treating. For adults, Halloween
is more about food, drinks and a lot of scary stuff, which can be really fun
too.
Halloween is definitely the time when all the spooky stuff
comes out. Houses all around the block get transformed into haunted houses,
decorated with carved pumpkins, skeletons, makeshift coffins and countless of
costumed ghouls. Because of the traditions associated with Halloween, this is
also one of the most commercialized holidays. According to statistics, over $9
billion is spent in the United States to celebrate this holiday.
Aside from the tradition of decorations, this is also the
day when all the spooky monsters come out. You will most likely see some of the
most scary-looking monsters through the costumes trick-or-treaters. It is
believed that during Hallows’ Eve, the creepy creatures come out to play. Our culture
is definitely rich with scary stories and mysterious folklore. There are scary
witches, flesh-eating zombies, blood-sucking vampires, haunted poltergeists,
possessed dolls, evil clowns and a whole lot more. Halloween would definitely not
be as fun without these spooky characters!
